There has been a meeting in Ireland of officials to discuss the fears that this winter will see many horses suffering due to the horse overpopulation.

The meeting was between Horse Sport Ireland Chairman, Joe Walsh, and the Minister for Agriculture, Brendan Smith, Irish Horse Welfare Trust’s, Jessica Harrington, Sharon Newsome and Jane Myercough and Barbara Bent representing the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

He went on to say one of the challenges when dealing with horse issues was that there were so many agencies involved and responsible for implementing the Control of Horses Act and the police being responsible for matters of welfare.
